i dunno if it *is* fixed?

Alright, Reader, I did it. My car is "fixed" and by "fixed" I mean I dropped over $1K on repairs, and now my low tire pressure light is on??

I was told it takes a minute for the sensors to pick up on things, so I've given it a week. In that time, I've barely logged 100 miles because of the whole WFH situation.

I'm doing my best to trust that the work they did is right and that it just needs time to settle.

But I also really don't want things to get worse and end up forking out even more cash. So I'm heading over for a "surprise" visit today to check in.

The same goes for your email marketing. Even if you fix what you can see (by updating your subject lines or refreshing your welcome series), there might be hidden issues such as deliverability problems or poor segmentation that need attention.

So let's learn how to keep an eye on your analytics so you can catch these issues before they turn into a costly repair job.

How to Peek Under the Hood With Your Emails

Fixing the visible issues in your campaigns (the copy, the design, etc) is just the first step.

Much like my car, there might be a hidden snag that only shows up when you really dig into the numbers.

I get that analytics can feel intimidating, but focusing on a few essentials will give you the insight you need.

The Basic 3 Things You Should Track If You're Short On Time

1. Open Rates

  • What It Is: The % of subscribers who open your emails.
  • Why You Should Care: If your open rate drops, it might be time to rethink your subject lines OR look into your deliverability (you might not be landing in the inbox!)
  • Quick Tip: Log in to your email dashboard weekly and note any significant changes.

2. Click Rates

  • What It Is: The proportion of readers clicking on links inside your email.
  • Why You Should Care: A low click rate can indicate that your call-to-action or content isn’t resonating with your readers.
  • Quick Tip: Compare emails with high and low click rates to pinpoint what makes the difference.

3. Conversion Rates

  • What It Is: The rate at which clicks lead to the action you want, such as purchases or sign-ups.
  • Why You Should Care: Without conversions, all those opens and clicks are just numbers on a screen.
  • Quick Tip: Review your landing pages and offers to confirm they mesh perfectly with your email messaging.

Regularly checking these metrics is like performing a routine inspection on your car.

A little time invested in understanding your numbers now can save you from major headaches (and costly surprises) later.

(Side note: if you're wondering "Wait, so then what's the difference between a click rate & a conversion?" Think of it like this: your click rate is the immediate action, and the conversion rate goes one step further. They followed through after the click. One shows how enticing your CTA is, the other shows you if your landing page, offer, etc. is effective at closing the loop.)

Reading: I've been in a massive “mood reading” cycle this year, so I've been rotating between a thriller Local Woman Missing and my annual read-through of Atomic Habits in physical form.

Listening: Then swapping between a psychology audiobook Control Your Mind and Master Your Feelings and a dark romance Exodus (The Ravenhood #2)... So far, I would recommend all of these except the psych book. It's a bit of a dud if I'm being honest.

Wellness Goal: Sleep??? 8 Hours?? That would be nice?? My insomnia has been kicking my booty lately, which makes everything else fall outta whack. So that's my wellness goal. Sleep. 😂

Obsessing Over: Learning to pole dance!!! Giiiiirl, I got a pole installed in my living room for bday and it's so fun, but I am SO BAD at it. Like-a-giraffe-learning-to-walk bad.

Alright, that's all she wrote for this week to help you detect hidden issues that might otherwise cost you down the road.

Just like a routine car check can save you from unexpected repair bills, keeping an eye on your opens, clicks, and conversions helps you catch little hiccups before they turn into major headaches.

I’ve got more micro fixes and insights coming your way in the next few weeks, so don't leave me hanging!

Oh, and as always, if there's anything specific you want to delve deeper into, please let me know!! These emails are a 2-way street & I adore hearing from you (plus working from home gets lonely, ya know? 😜).

Edition #132 Thursday, June 26th, 2025 the client that made me question everything ↓ She wasn’t my first client. But she was the first one who made me question if I was truly cut out for being a service provider. I charged her $1250 for what should’ve easily been a $5K project. Red flag #1. She critiqued everything I did, like I was some corporate employee, not a hired creative who knows her sh*t. Red flag #2. And when I told her I'd be off the grid for my first ever real vacation, I made...

Edition #131 Thursday, June 12th, 2025 she left me on read for 8 months... ↓ (Not in a shady way. Just in a “not now” kinda way.) I sent the cold pitch anyway. Because I genuinely love her jewelry. And I knew I could help, if (when!) she needed it. No pressure, no “let me pick your brain” weirdness. Just a friendly note, a few ideas, and a hope that she’d remember my name even if she wasn’t ready. Fast forward a few quarters, and she wanted to hear more. Yay!! So we got to work. I dug deep,...

Edition #130 Thursday, June 5th, 2025 i've don't talk about this often ↓ Mostly because it’s a benign condition, I’ve learned to live with. But lately, it’s been very active. And very painful. And very inconvenient. Enter: Dyshidrotic eczema.(Aka pompholyx, if you want to be fancy about it.) It’s a type of eczema that causes tiny, itchy, fluid-filled blisters on your hands and feet. They’re miserable, they’re ugly, and they’ve taken up permanent residence on my right hand for the past six...
