i got stood up🧍🏼‍♀️

and honestly? i'm glad i did.

So... long story short? I got stood up.

I’d been talking to this ex-marine for a month. Now, I've had a few... unsavory encounters with marines since my move to Wilmy (aka less than an hour from a marine base).

So my guard was already up. Like, sky-high walls. But he was super consistent. Easy to talk to. Sent me $200 to have a great St. Paddy’s with my friends.

Does the $$ really matter? Ofc not. But he was in Michigan, and I was in NC, so I took it as a kind gesture since he was still trying to help me have a great weekend, ya know?

This man called me before work, on his lunch break, and as soon as he got off work every day.

Once, we stayed on the phone for 12+ hours (ok, I fell asleep, he didn't hang up, and then said "good morning!" when he heard me waking up). On the surface, it felt solid.

But underneath all that attention? The red flags were just casually blowing in the wind. Waiting for me to pay attention.

Fast forward: I’m back in Michigan on a trip, 15 minutes away from him, and he tells me to “pick a spot” for our first date.

Said he’d meet me as soon as he wrapped something up for work. An hour goes by. Then another.

A few half-assed texts, and nothing else. At 10:30, I gave up, washed my face, and went to bed.

That right there? Is what a weak CTA feels like. Essentially, The Call to Action That Went Nowhere.

When your email says one thing, but the click goes nowhere or worse -- feels vague and non-committal -- it leaves people hanging.

You might’ve done everything else right, but if your call to action isn’t clear, specific, and aligned with what they actually want… they bounce.

💸 Your CTA Might Be Killing Your Sales 💸

If your click rates look decent, but conversions are low, the issue might not be your offer. It could be the way you're leading readers to it.

CTAs are small but mighty. And when they’re even slightly off, it’s like giving directions without saying where the front door is.

The reader might want to get there, but if the next step is confusing, vague, or buried in a wall of text, they’ll give up before they even try.

✍🏼 What to Adjust if Clicks Aren’t Converting ✍🏼

  • Wording that’s too soft or too vague
"Learn more" and "Click here" don’t tell people WHY they should care. Swap them for action-driven, benefit-focused copy like:
    → “Show me the results”
→ “Take me to the bundle”
→ “Yes, I want better sleep”
    → “See what’s inside”
  • One CTA per scroll
Multiple buttons side by side or back to back just split attention. Keep it focused and make the next step ✨ crystal clear ✨
  • Give your CTA breathing room
If your button is jammed between two blocks of text or squeezed into a cluttered layout, it’s easy to miss. Add space. Make it bold. Let it stand on its own.
  • Repeat it (the right way)
Add a button near the top for the skimmers, and another at the end for the folks who actually read. Same CTA, different placements.

💡 Pause: A Quick Reminder💡

Sometimes the email is doing its job, and the landing page is where it falls apart.

If people are clicking but not buying, check what the page is actually saying. If it doesn’t match what your email promised, they’ll bounce.

(We'll be diving into this topic further next week!)

Reading: I finished Scythe & Sparrow a little.. underwhelmed tbh. Still a solid 3-star, but meh. My local library (finally!) released the Twisted series on Hoopla so I started book 1! Will report back my findings 🫡

Listening: Idk if Greyson Hoelzel has popped up on your reels tab before. But I'm lowkey in love w/ his awkward, dorky, hopeless romantic self. He launched a podcast recently, Happier Hour. So, ofc, I've been eating that shit uuuuup.

Wellness Goal: Learning a 2-minute routine on my pole!! Now that I'm back in NC, I'm bucking down and committing to it. That, and making weekly beach trips a priority again for my mental health :)

Obsessing Over: Goodnotes! This might be a short-lived obsession since it's only a 7-day free trial, but it's so much more helpful than writing my notes on a scrap of paper I never look at again. 😅

While homeboy might be blocked on my Snapchat now, I don’t want your subscribers dipping because your CTA fell flat.

If you’re getting clicks but no conversions, it might be time to look a little deeper.

Sometimes it’s the wording or placement. Sometimes it’s the landing page not backing up the promise. Either way, you deserve to know what’s working (and what’s not).

If you want eyes on your flows, your buttons, and everything in between, an Audit might be exactly what you need.

I’ll go through your emails, links, and landing experience to figure out why your clicks aren’t turning into buyers and what to fix first. Or, if you're not seeing clicks? I'll look into that too!

Next week, we’re talking about Email-to-Landing Page Alignment, so your subscribers don’t hit a dead end after they click.

You're not gonna want to miss it (& if there's an update on ex-marine, you'll be the first to know... he's not blocked on my Cashapp 🤷🏼‍♀️😂)

Edition #132 Thursday, June 26th, 2025 the client that made me question everything ↓ She wasn’t my first client. But she was the first one who made me question if I was truly cut out for being a service provider. I charged her $1250 for what should’ve easily been a $5K project. Red flag #1. She critiqued everything I did, like I was some corporate employee, not a hired creative who knows her sh*t. Red flag #2. And when I told her I'd be off the grid for my first ever real vacation, I made...

Edition #131 Thursday, June 12th, 2025 she left me on read for 8 months... ↓ (Not in a shady way. Just in a “not now” kinda way.) I sent the cold pitch anyway. Because I genuinely love her jewelry. And I knew I could help, if (when!) she needed it. No pressure, no “let me pick your brain” weirdness. Just a friendly note, a few ideas, and a hope that she’d remember my name even if she wasn’t ready. Fast forward a few quarters, and she wanted to hear more. Yay!! So we got to work. I dug deep,...

Edition #130 Thursday, June 5th, 2025 i've don't talk about this often ↓ Mostly because it’s a benign condition, I’ve learned to live with. But lately, it’s been very active. And very painful. And very inconvenient. Enter: Dyshidrotic eczema.(Aka pompholyx, if you want to be fancy about it.) It’s a type of eczema that causes tiny, itchy, fluid-filled blisters on your hands and feet. They’re miserable, they’re ugly, and they’ve taken up permanent residence on my right hand for the past six...
