why would a business do this??? 😒

i'm leaving kit.

I have been a HUGE advocate for using Kit if you're a small business owner + creator who needs a little more advanced features than what other email platforms have, like Flodesk or MailerLite.

However, in case you missed the huge freakout on threads yesterday: Kit is doing their customers DIRTY.

They went through a HUGE rebrand last year, with an article titled: Rebranding in Public: Why We're Becoming Kit, where they LITERALLY SAY they're not going to be raising prices!!!!

But here we are, not even a full calendar year, and they're raising prices.

(don't even get me started on their "free Newsletter Plan" it's garbage, they only allow ONE basic automation, which is helping no one).

And I'm not just upset because my annual plan is going from $108/ year to $390/ year. It's because of HOW they announced it.

They did it the same way Netflix did. And Canva did.

They did it in a way that shows they clearly don't care about their customers; they care about their bottom line.

Instead of giving a longer heads up, or offering to grandfather in people who are already regularly using Kit, they sent an email that essentially said:

"Your current plan is being discontinued, but don't worry! We'll automatically upgrade you to our lowest plan at your next billing cycle"

Like??? hello??? I'm very worried?? I never wanted to be on the creator plan! I don't need all the extra stuff. So, now I'm making the switch. Again.

Because I simply cannot stand behind a business that doesn't care about me.

🌊 What Email Marketing Platform Should You Use? 🌊

Before, it used to be a clear-cut "Kit or Klaviyo". Now, things are a little more nuanced. So here's my two cents:

If you're an e-comm business, I'll always recommend Klaviyo because:

  • The ease of use
  • The in-depth understanding of customer behavior
  • The easy integration with Shopify
  • SMS + Reviews all in the same platform
  • And sooo many other reasons (you can read them in our latest blog!).

If you're a service provider, my recommendations are TBD:

  • If you're newer to email and don't need a whole suite of analytics, Flodesk is a great starting point. It's super easy to naviagate, and they're constantly adding new features. (plus it's $35/mo for unlimited contacts, if you lock in before Nov)
    • Side note: I know many not newer-to-email folk that preach their love for Flodesk bc they don't have to pay per subscriber. And it issssss a female founded brand... so I may end up switching back because of that 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • The other contenders: MailerLite + Beehiv.
    • Beehiv is trying to say on threads that their pricing is "cheaper" but tbh, it's looking like it's also gonna be pretty pricey. But they do have some cool features similar to Kit.
    • MailerLite has a free plan that includes basic automation, it's just a little clunky on the backend imo. But otherwise, I don't have any glaring downsides.
  • The one I would NEVER recommend is MailChimp. Over my dead body lmao.

I have a little over a month to decide, so this will likely be an ongoing debate, and one I'll keep you looped in once I choose :)

At the end of the day, which email platform you choose is based on YOUR business's needs, not just what is popular.

I will say, whoever handles Flodesk's engagement has been POPPING off on threads, and it's low-key hilarious. And is another point to potentially bring me (and sooo many others, it looks like) back to their platform.

If you need help choosing which email platform is best for YOUR needs, just reply back to this email. I got you :)

Edition #137 Tuesday, August 26th, 2025 the backstabbing snake ↓ I won't lie, I’ve told this story more times than I can count. And not because I care about the guy, but because I needed validation that this was actually as shady as it felt. All I wanted was something casual, consistent, and chill. So I started "dating" someone I genuinely liked as a friend. Things were fine… until he caught deeper feelings. I reminded him of what we agreed on (aka: nothing serious). He responded by blocking...

Edition #136 Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 even tho i'm constantly rejecting him ↓ The other week, I was SO excited to spend some time with my male bsf (who I matched w/ on Tinder last Nov, but we both instantly agreed we'd make better friends than lovers) because I was fiiiinally gonna meet the girl he's seeing. His roommate came too, which was... fine. Except he'd been drinking since noon. And by 7 p.m., he was saying things like “it's cuz you’re just so cute” when it wasn’t even part of the...

Edition #135 Tuesday, August 12th, 2025 + they also happen to be my EASIEST. ↓ They're not a secret because I’m ashamed of them. But because they’re a corporate client in the healthcare industry. Not exactly aligned with the small biz, e-comm founder vibe I usually talk about here, ya know? Still, I adore the all-female team I support, and they’re my longest-running client for a reason. I landed the role purely through luck. A friend of a friend needed temporary coverage while someone was on...
