When your St. Paddy’s Day plans ghost you 🍀

they say opposites attract, right?

I'm a planner. It gives me something to look forward to, eases my stress, and it's just FUN.

One of my closest friends is the total opposite: a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants kind of girlie. So when she hit me up nearly a WEEK before St. Paddy's Day weekend, I was shocked (and elated).

This is the same friend who asked me 1.5 days before her wedding if I'd be a witness. 😆 Love her!

On the day we planned to hang out, she texted that she wasn't feeling great, but would keep me posted. In the meantime, I scrambled to find a cute green shirt (the one thing I DIDN'T plan for... oops).

Nothing at T.J. Maxx, nothing at Marshalls, and Walmart had just one medium tee that I ended up cutting into something presentable. Then I spent another two hours styling my wavy hair and perfecting my makeup.

Less than 30 mins before heading out? She texts: "I can't make it." I was obviously sooo bummed.

I spent all week looking forward to it and put so much effort into getting ready. But I understood. If she wasn't feeling good, she needed to stay home & rest!

Instead of scrapping my plans entirely (and all that effort going to waste), I decided to pivot. I ended up meeting with another friend and 7 (!!!) other women I'd never met, and honestly? Had an absolute blast.

I even somehow got a cute photo of me mid-laugh? A rarity!

Your emails landing in spam is exactly like this scenario. You've crafted the perfect email (like styling my hair and makeup to perfection), but right after you hit send, it quietly slips into spam folders: unseen, unnoticed.

All your effort, and nobody gets to appreciate it. Frustrating, right?

But, just like my night, you can pivot, fix the issue, and still end up with amazing connections (and new subscribers!).

If your emails are landing in spam, you're probably feeling the same frustration I did. BUT there's a quick way to figure out exactly where your emails are ending up (and how to fix it). 👇🏼

Are Your Emails Playing Hide & Seek in Spam?

Last week, we went over how to "Peek Under the Hood With Your Emails"... so this week? We're going to take things one step further.

One of the biggest reasons your emails get stuck in spam is your sender reputation.

This is essentially your email’s trust score with . If inbox providers see you as reliable (healthy engagement, good email hygiene), they roll out the red carpet straight to the inbox. If they don’t? Hello, spam folder.

How to Know if Your Emails are Secretly Landing in Spam:

  • Inbox Test Tools:
    Use simple tools like
Mail Tester or Postmaster Tools to pinpoint exactly where your emails land.
  • Create Test Accounts:
Set up a few free email accounts (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo), subscribe to your own list, and send test emails to quickly confirm where they land.
  • Sudden Drop in Opens:
An unexpected drop in open rates could mean your emails aren’t reaching inboxes at all.

4 Practical Steps to Quickly Fix Inbox-Placement Issues:

  1. Clean Your List Regularly:
Remove inactive subscribers. It's quick, effective, and strengthens your sender reputation
(pro tip: a sunset flow will automate the process for you!).
  2. Authenticate Your Domain:
Set up your SPF and DKIM
(your email platform makes it easy) to prove you’re a trustworthy sender.
  3. Warm Up Your Sending:
Have you recently taken a break from email? Be sure to ease into sending emails again so you're not seen as 'flooding' inboxes all at once
    (like a spam sender would).
  4. Encourage Replies:
Ask your subscribers questions so they have a reason to reply to you, which shows inbox providers that people see your emails as valuable
(this especially works wonders in welcome flows + regular newsletters).

Your 5-Minute Challenge

Pick just one step above and address it right now (or add it to your cal so you don't forget!).

It takes less than 5 minutes to start improving your sender reputation and making sure your emails stop playing hide & seek and start landing exactly where you want them: directly in front of your subscribers. You got this! <3

And once you've handled today's mini-challenge? You're already one step closer to emails that'll land where they belong (aka, not spam).

Next week, we're moving forward with even more quick fixes you can implement right away (hint: it has to do with your subject lines!).

Oh, and if there's something specific tripping you up or that you're curious about, just hit reply and let me know. I love hearing from you!

Edition #127 Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 "your maintenance request is complete!" ↓ Was the text I got a few hours after the maintenance crew randomly left my apartment... without saying a word. And the black spots I had reported? Still there. Just smudged now from their "cleaning" attempt. Cue my facial expression: 🤨🤨🤨 But lemme back up: A few weeks ago, I noticed these random black spots popping up on my carpet. Not knowing what else to do, I grabbed some cleaner and a wash rag. Wiped them up....

This was me writing this newsletter, eating one of my favorite grilled cheese/ soup combos at HopCat

Edition #127 Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 ok, i swear i do more than just go on dates ↓ Buuuut they do make for the most interesting stories lately. Everything else? Pretty routine. And because I’m me, I tend to find marketing parallels in everything. Especially the chaotic stuff I tell myself I’m doing ✨for the plot✨. Like this one date I went on in Michigan:He was funny over text. Thoughtful. Easy to talk to. Didn’t vote for Trump. (The bar? In hell. I know.) So we make plans to meet. He texts...

Edition #126 Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 and honestly? i'm glad i did. ↓ So... long story short? I got stood up. I’d been talking to this ex-marine for a month. Now, I've had a few... unsavory encounters with marines since my move to Wilmy (aka less than an hour from a marine base). So my guard was already up. Like, sky-high walls. But he was super consistent. Easy to talk to. Sent me $200 to have a great St. Paddy’s with my friends. Does the $$ really matter? Ofc not. But he was in Michigan,...
